In 2020, the island of Taiwan proper, Penghu, and Matsu were certified by the World Organization for Animal Health as a “zone free of foot and mouth disease where vaccination is not practiced.” This was an important milestone in animal disease prevention work over the last 23 years and was an achievement made possible by the collective efforts of government agencies and all citizens.
